Over the weekend, the 58th annual NFL Super Bowl in Las Vegas, Nevada took place with a halftime performance by pop idol Usher. Before the Super Bowl performance took place I thought of his songs, featured artists, and themes Usher would display during his show. TikTok and Instagram accounts posted their takes on what songs he would come out to. I thought a good idea to come out to would be the start of his song OMG with, “Oh my gosh” and a long pause with bass would have been cool for him to appear after the lyrics, “Baby let me,” pause, “I did it again so Im gon’ let the beat rock.” But during the show he started at ground level with the song Caught Up. Usher has a way of performing where it is not just a concert, but also a show full of entertainment and songs that get the crowd dancing and singing along, so I knew the show was going to be good. Days leading up to the Super Bowl, fans were taking matters into their own hands with theories on what songs Usher would perform and who he would bring out alongside him. Rumors through the media provided an image that Justin Bieber would perform alongside Usher singing Somebody to Love which got fans excited. The day before the Super Bowl my for you page on TikTok was flooded with posts about how Justin Bieber landed in Vegas, but still no answers if he would perform.
As the halftime show started, Usher was on the field with dancers and performers who provided a Circ de Soleil theme to his concert and had the crowd drawn into all parts of the screen with people on stilts, groups throwing each other through the air, and dancers with large, blue feathers to surround and dance around him. As he walked up to the stage he switched songs and the cameras panned to a red cape where Alicia Keys was playing the piano. Both singers performed beautifully with great chemistry and stage presence. He also had features of H.E.R. where she appeared playing her electric guitar. Later, he introduced Lil Jon and DJ Snake to play Turn Down for What where crowds were jumping around with more performers being thrown in the air in the background to keep the performance high energy. He later also brought on Will.i.am, Ludacris, and Jermaine Dupri. Toward the end of his performance, he makes an outfit change where he wears a blue and black blinged-out set and comes out on rollerskates. He continued to sing and skate around the stage until he stepped off to take off the skates and came back to dance and finish off with the song Get Low. With his show finished, fans were hyped up and ready to continue the rest of the game.
I loved the halftime show and saw the performance boosted through all my social media. Fans and I were kind of disappointed when Justin did not make his appearance, but overall I was not let down with the concert, especially in a short period of time. Songs of his brought back nostalgia from his songs to the singers he brought to perform with him. Due to his half time show at the Super Bowl, I would love to see what he can do with a full concert.
But enough about me; what are your thoughts and opinions?
